The Waters & the Fish

The Principle species are: Barbel, Bream, Carp, Chub, Dace, Eel, Grayling, Roach, Perch and Pike. There are also Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Salmon.

All fish must be handled with care and returned to the water unharmed. Barbel especially should be returned to the river as quickly as possible, held gently in the current, head facing upstream for a few minutes, until they swim away on their own accord. If fishing specifically for Barbel ensure your equipment is adequate (at least 7lb, line). Drawn out battles in weedy fast flowing swims, or light tackle, tires the fish unnecessarily; besides should that double figure record of a lifetime take your bait, which could easily happen on this water, and your tackle isn't up to it, you will be smashed up and loose it in seconds.

Be courteous to your fellow anglers. Please take all litter away even if it isn't your own. Report any signs of pollution, distressed fish or wildlife of any kind. Report anybody behaving irresponsibly. Help look after this beautiful stretch of the Avon and surrounding countryside.

Christchurch Angling Club manages many miles of the Avon and Stour, their tributaries and several still waters, offering some of the finest natural Coarse and Game fishing, in beautiful landscape, anywhere in the country.

Membership is limited but for those who are interested application forms are available at most tackleshops.
